GIS FOR WATER, SANITATION, AND HYGIENE (WASH) TRAINING WORKSHOP
Duration: 4 Days April 7th to 10th 2026

Course Fee: $ 750 per person
Venue: Meridian Hotel, Nairobi, Kenya

Target Audience: WASH specialists, public health officers

Day 1: GIS Basics for WASH Planning
• Introduction to GIS & Spatial Data – Overview of GIS, spatial data types, and
projections.
• Role of GIS in WASH – Mapping water sources, sanitation facilities, and service
coverage.
• Basic GIS Tools – Hands-on with QGIS/ArcGIS for data visualization.

Day 2: Water Resource Mapping & Sanitation Infrastructure
• Mapping Water Resources – Identifying and classifying water sources using GIS.
• Sanitation Infrastructure Mapping – Locating and assessing sanitation facilities.
• Data Collection Techniques – Using GPS, remote sensing, and mobile data collection
tools.

Day 3: Analyzing WASH Service Delivery & Accessibility
• Spatial Analysis for WASH – Proximity analysis, buffer zones, and service coverage.
• Accessibility & Equity Mapping – Identifying underserved areas and gaps in service.
• Decision-Support Tools – GIS applications for planning and policy development.

Day 4: Hands-on Project & Data Visualization
• Project Work – Teams analyze WASH data to solve a real-world problem.
• Data Visualization & Reporting – Creating thematic maps, dashboards, and reports.
• Presentation & Certification – Participants showcase findings and receive certificates.
